Luke Styles is a British and Australian composer whose work is performed regularly throughout the world. Luke was the first Glyndebourne Young Composer in Residence, the first composer in residence at the Foundling Museum since Handel and the 2022 British Council Musician in Residence to Brazil.
Luke’s recent opera Awakening Shadow premiered in 2021 at the Cheltenham Music Festival, Presteigne Festival and received a second production by Sydney Chamber Opera in 2022. Voices of Power, Luke’s 40-minute oratorio to a new text by Jessica Walker for the Philharmonia Orchestra, soloist Hilary Summers and choir, was the feature premiere of the 2022 Three Choirs Festival. Luke’s symphonic song cycle No Friend But The Mountains premiered at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne in March 2021 and has been turned into a two-part ABC TV documentary.
Looking ahead Luke will compose two major vocal works, for Le Balcon (France) and La Nuova Musica (UK) as well as orchestral works for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and chamber music works.
