Yshani Perinpanayagam is a pianist, composer, improviser and music director. She has performed at venues from Wigmore Hall to the National Theatre, at events from Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival to the Barbican Mime Festival, and with artists from the Philharmonia to Showstopper! The Improvised Musical. Yshani’s interest in new music has seen her premiere works by composers including by Charlotte Bray, Joe Cutler, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Hannah Kendall, Gavin Higgins, Benjamin Oliver and Kate Whitley.
As a composer herself, previous commissions include works for the London Sinfonietta, Onyx Brass, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Street Orchestra Live, and the music for a play about Fanny Mendelssohn. Yshani’s compositions have been performed by artists such as Ligeti Quartet, Siglo de Oro, and the BBC Singers on BBC Radio 3, and her songs with comedian Pippa Evans have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Her long-standing interest in computer games has resulted works including the commission by Sound and Music of Choose Your Poison, an online interactive musical composition exploring climate change and choice, and a piece for piano synchronised to a perfect game of Snake for the National Videogame Arcade All Your Bass Festival.
