Luís Tinoco (b.1969, Lisbon) is a composer and producer of new music programmes for Antena 2 radio station in Portugal, where he is also the artistic director of the Young Musicians Prize and Festival. He also lectures at the Escola Superior de Musica in Lisbon.
Tinoco's catalogue is published by the UYMP and includes vocal and stage music as well as orchestral works premiered by the Radio France Philharmonic, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra Gulbenkian, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra and the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Tinoco’s music is available on commercial CDs recorded with the Orquestra Gulbenkian (Naxos 2013) and the Ensemble Lontano (Lorelt 2005). In 2018 Odradek records released a CD with world premiere recordings of his orchestral music and performances by the Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Gulbenkian Orchestra and cellist Filipe Quaresma as soloist. Tinoco also recorded Archipelago for Odradek, an album fully devoted to his percussion works, which was performed by the Drumming GP. In 2022, the new label Next released Aleppo and other silences, featuring Tinoco's chamber music. Luís Tinoco was made Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2016.
