Trevor Pinnock conducts Ravel and Mozart - Academy Chamber Orchestra

Trevor Pinnock conducts the Royal Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Mozart’s Symphony No 41, ‘Jupiter’, and Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin. This concert, livestreamed from the Duke’s Hall, has been viewed over 53,000 times by music lovers all over the world.

Originally written as a solo piano suite and arranged for orchestra in 1919, Ravel dedicated Le tombeau de Couperin to friends who died in the First World War. Mozart’s final symphony was posthumously nicknamed ‘Jupiter’ as the opening chords were thought to resemble bolts of lightning from the Roman gods.

Pinnock has enjoyed a long and fruitful tenure as Principal Guest Conductor of the Academy Chamber Orchestra. This is our second livestream with Pinnock. He previously worked with students on a performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion.
