Ben studied conducting at the Academy and graduated in 2017. He is currently Music Director of the Opéra de Rouen Normandie and Principal Guest Conductor with the Volksoper Wien. He is fast becoming one of the most sought-after conductors on the global stage. His upcoming operatic highlights include his house debuts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées with Bizet’s Carmen. Symphonic highlights of the 2023/24 season include his debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a return to the Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
Ben Glassberg said of his appointment: 'From the first rehearsal with the Volksoper Orchestra, it was love at first sight. The energy, dedication, and talent these musicians bring to the table every single working day is inspiring—not to mention their humanity and sense of humor. Last season, we worked together on music from Wagner to Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Nicolai to The Wizard of Oz. In each of these completely different musical styles, the orchestra, choir and ensemble of the Volksoper give one hundred percent commitment and a spirit of cooperation that gives me great pleasure.'
The Academy’s Head of Conducting Sian Edwards added: 'Ben is an immensely intelligent and creative musician who always brings a lot of love to every project he's involved in. His appointment at the Volksoper, Vienna, is an inspiration to us all'.
