‘The Academy welcomes the news that the closure of the BBC Singers has been suspended. What the last painful weeks have shown is that the value of the BBC’s classical music organisations reaches deeply into all strands of society. I hope that this will soon be followed by an equivalent announcement about BBC orchestras. This should be an opportunity to turn this unfortunate episode towards some positive and long-lasting solutions. Decision-makers have a chance now to rebuild music, to celebrate the range and excellence that the Corporation is known for globally, and to do so in a sustainable way.'
