This is the second year the scholarships have been awarded, following a generous donation of £1.7million in 2018. The donation, the largest ever received by the Academy for scholarships, will fund the tuition and development of around 40 students over a five-year period.
As a Bicentenary Scholar, students will receive mentorship from an Academy Professor and coaching on performance and professional development. The scholarships, in partnership with world-renowned independent recording label Linn Records, also provide students with opportunities for a series of recordings which will be made available to the public worldwide via a number of high-quality digital platforms.
This year’s recipients are Roberts Balanas (violin), Margarita Balanas (cello), Ariel Lanyi (piano), Camilla Goldsborough (soprano), Ossian Huskinson (bass-baritone) and James Orford (organ).
