Jason Evans is currently Principal Trumpet of the Philharmonia Orchestra and has previously held the
post of Head of Brass at the Royal College of Music. He is the first Global Majority musician to have held these positions.
Jason was one of the youngest principal
trumpeters to have been appointed to a UK orchestra, having secured his current
position in the Philharmonia Orchestra during the second year of his bachelor's
degree at the Academy, where he studied with James Watson, Mark
David, Paul Beniston and John Hutchins. He is also an active soloist and has
performed as a soloist at the BBC Proms with the Philharmonia.
Jason is in high demand for commercial recordings as a freelance trumpet player. Recent
film soundtracks on which Jason can be heard include Rebel Moon, Wonka, Puss in Boots 2, The Marvels and The Little Mermaid.
Jason commented: 'I am both
delighted and honoured to be returning to the Academy as the James Watson
Visiting Professor of Trumpet. Jim’s beautiful phrasing and wonderful
musicianship continue to be an inspiration to me. I hope I can continue his legacy
in joining this prestigious department.'
Professor Mark David, Head of Brass, commented: 'I am delighted that Jason is returning to his Alma Mater to join the Academy's professorial team. Jason is one of the leading trumpeters of his generation not only as a performer but also as a pedagogue.
'Jason's passionate advocacy for inclusivity in the arts and his ability to articulate and develop the psychological strategies required for peak performance will give further impetus to the Academy's mission of training musicians in the ever-changing musical landscape of the 21st century.'
