The annual SSSSPOTY competition took place at the Sondheim Theatre on Sunday 9 June, hosted by Bonnie Langford. 12 finalists from conservatoires across the country competed, each performing a classic Sondheim number and a song from the New UK Musicals catalogue.
Madeleine took home the £1,000 First Prize for her performances of 'Moments in the Woods' from Sondheim's Into the Woods (which she will perform in our production later this month) and 'Running on Empty' from Mayflies by Gus Gowland. For winning the competition, Madeleine will also have the chance to headline her own Sondheim-infused cabaret in London.
The SSSSPOTY competition celebrates both the work of Stephen Sondheim and upcoming Musical Theatre talent in the UK. Academy students have had great success in recent years at the competition, with Emily Botnen chosen as runner-up in 2023 and Desmonda Cathabel awarded First Prize in 2022.
