Written by alumna Anna Picard and with contributions from the Academy’s Principal Jonathan Freeman-Attwood CBE and Deputy Principal Timothy Jones, the book documents the storied history of the Academy; from its foundation in 1822 to today, looking forward to its Bicentenary.
The book features an array of spectacular photographs showcasing not only the Academy’s exceptional building but also the cutting-edge talent developing within it. The book also includes a discussion between Jonathan Freeman-Attwood and Ian Ritchie, the award-winning architect behind the Susie Sainsbury Theatre and the Angela Burgess Recital Hall.
It reveals how virtuoso architecture and technology have brilliantly fused the Academy’s famous Edwardian building with the modern institution’s creative values and aspirations as it moves towards its third century. These new spaces have won over 20 national and international awards, including RIBA London Building of the Year Award 2018, and World Architecture Community Award 2019.
