Symphony No 1 'Constellations' by current PhD student, Shin Kim, received its world premiere at the opening concert of the 19th George Enescu International Competition last week. As winner of the Enescu Competition’s Symphony Music Prize in 2022, Shin had his work performed by Romania's National Radio Orchestra and conductor Delyana Lazarova in the Romanian Athenaeum.
Another current PhD student, Andrea Balency-Béarn, composed music for the soundtrack to the new BBC drama Kidnapped: The Chloe Ayling Story. The soundtrack also features Academy students performing on it.
Earlier in the summer, recent graduate Arnau Brichs won IRCAM’s highly prestigious Élan Award for his work Degrees of Presence, scored for double-woodwind symphonic orchestra. The Élan Award is designed for young composers to promote their careers and offers professional support. For winning the award, Arnau will have his work published by Editions Durand-Salabert-Eschig, and will also receive a commission from IRCAM and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France to write a new work for solo instrument, orchestra and electronics, which will be premiered next season.
