Mia-Nicole Alexander currently attends the Junior Academy Musical Theatre (JAMT) course at the Academy and receives a JAMT bursary.
In 2022, Mia-Nicole made her professional West End debut as Young Nala in The Lion King at The Lyceum Theatre, and went on to perform in the role for 18 months. For these performances, she has been nominated for a Black British Theatre Award (BBTA) in the 'Best Child Performer' Category. The BBTA honours the exceptional work by Black professionals across all aspects of theatre-making. Its sixth annual ceremony takes places at The Lyceum Theatre on 4 November, which Mia-Nicole will attend.
On her nomination and her time at Junior Academy Musical Theatre, Mia-Nicole said:
'Being nominated for Best Child Performer at the 2024 BBTA’s is like a dream come true and I am so excited to attend the event. The fact I am pursuing this dream and being recognised for doing something that I love means the world to me.
'I look forward to my JAMT lessons every week and have learned so much since joining. JAMT has helped me to grow as an actress and believe in myself. They've also taught me how to manage deadlines and helped me develop my skills and confidence, but most importantly, it has encouraged my love for Musical Theatre and I am more determined than ever to keep on following my dreams. It is also inspiring to know that my fellow cast member, Merryl Ansah (Nala) had her own journey at the Academy. I hope to follow in her footsteps and become Nala too when I am older.'
