Alexandra Bellamy graduated from the Queen’s College Oxford with a BA in Music in 1991 and went on to study the historical oboe with Sophia McKenna and Paul Goodwin at the Royal Academy of Music.
In 1995 she was principal oboe of the European Union Baroque Orchestra and since that time has played with all the main UK period instrument orchestras, features on many award-winning CDs, and is much in demand as a principal and solo oboist.
From 1999 – 2008 she was principal oboe of The King’s Consort and can be heard on this group’s recordings from this time, most notably as the soloist on a disc of Handel’s oboe sonatas. She is also a regular member of Paul McCreesh’s ‘Gabrieli Consort’, the chamber group Florilegium, Arcangelo and Brecon Baroque with Rachel Podger. Other career highlights have included tours around Australia with the Australian Chamber Orchestra directed by Richard Tognetti and tours and recordings with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
Alex has been a principal player with the Dunedin Consort for many years and can be heard on (amongst others) their highly acclaimed recordings of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos and John Passion.
