Alfonso is an established freelance musical director and musical supervisor in the West End
His work includes musical direction for film, television, games and musical theatre. He also collaborates on a regular basis with major orchestras in the UK and abroad, including the BBC Concert Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and London Concert Orchestra.
He started conducting professional shows in Madrid at the age of 20, and has since conducted and supervised shows in the UK, Spain, Japan and Brazil. Major credits include Les Misérables (MD/Supervisor, Spain, London and Dubai), Miss Saigon (MD/Supervisor London and Tokyo), The Phantom of the Opera (London), Mamma Mia! (Spain), Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and others. He conducted the 25th anniversary gala performance of Miss Saigon (released on DVD worldwide) and was co-supervisor for the Les Misérables 30th anniversary gala performance in London.
Recent projects include conducting Disney in Concert, Candide (The Grange Festival), Simply Gershwin (Royal Festival Hall), Pedralbes Festival in Barcelona and the award-winning score for the film Buñuel and the Labyrinth of the Turtles, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.
He recorded a Spanish classical music album with the BBC Concert Orchestra in January 2018 alongside soloists Juan Pérez and Magdalena Llamas, and he conducted the orchestra again in August 2018 for Friday night is Music Night.
Awards include Best Musical Director in Spain for Les Misérables and Best Musical Director in the West End for Miss Saigon.
