Andrea Brown is a British Choral Conductor and Artistic Director and has directed and devised award-winning festivals and concert seasons across the globe.
Andrea is the Musical Director and Founder of the professional ensemble Tippett Voices, the Esterhazy Singers, The Festival Chorus, and Associate Conductor of The Fourth Choir, North London Chorus and ENO Community Chorus.
Andrea works regularly as conductor with choirs including the BBC Singers, London Oriana Choir, Borough Chamber Choir and the Southbank Centre’s Voicelab. Recently, she was the musical director of an award-winning contemporary opera This is Not For You with Graeae Theatre Company at Greenwich and Docklands International Festival and Stockton Riverside International Festival, and also chaired the jury and held masterclasses at the Grand Prix Thailand choral competition in Bangkok. She led Tippett Voices getting two five star reviews (Guardian and The Stage) as lead choir for Memorial (Jocelyn Pook premiere) at the Barbican Centre, London.
Andrea is the Head of Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, leading and teaching on the MA programme. Recently Director of Music at Morley College, she led a vibrant music department, offering accredited and non-accredited courses across the year to c5000 students. During her time there she led a number of ground-breaking projects with organisations such as the Cadogan Hall, Royal Ballet, Southbank Sinfonia and the Southbank Centre. Highlights include conducting performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Singers, Voicelab and 400 students in Tippett’s A Child of Our Time at the Royal Festival Hall.
Andrea co-founded the award-winning Women Conductors and Wavelength programmes, both designed to encourage, educate and promote women within the conducting profession. An active member of the Association of British Choral Directors, Andrea chairs jury panels of choral competitions, and holds masterclasses for choirs and conductors in the UK, Europe and South East Asia. Andrea was the Artistic Director of Various Voices, an international choral festival involving 60+ choirs performing at the Southbank Centre, and was awarded the Inspire mark from the London 2012 Olympics Committee.
With a background as a professional soprano, Andrea has performed and recorded in some of the finest concert halls across Europe including Theatre du Chatelet, Concertgebouw, Barbican Centre, Berliner Philharmonie and the Peristile in Split, Croatia, with ensembles Academy of Ancient Music, Chapelle du Roi and Ex Cathedra. As part of her MA in Choral Conducting, Andrea was awarded the Alan Kirby Prize for Choral Leadership at the Royal Academy of Music, and scholarships for Post-Graduate Singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
