Andrew studied clarinet with Georgina Dobree and piano with Sidney Harrison at the Royal Academy of Music
While here, he won the Geoffrey Hawkes Prize for solo clarinet playing and the August Manns Prize for outstanding performance. Subsequently he gained the Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Middlesex University, and studied saxophone with Gordon Lewin.
He has since pursued a full and successful career in teaching, whilst continuing to perform regularly. As well as his work for Junior Academy, teaching clarinet, piano and saxophone, he is a senior teacher and orchestral conductor at Havering Music School in East London, where he was for many years also Head of Performance Studies.
As a performer he has a particular interest in solo and chamber music. Since 1995 he has given recitals with pianist Marie Saba, and also more recently with Peter Arnold. He has appeared in many concerts exploring the repertoire for clarinet, strings and piano, and he performed with the British Clarinet Ensemble at the International ClarinetFest in New Orleans, in addition to concerts in the UK. He regularly presents demonstration concerts for schools, on clarinet and saxophone, and is also an experienced piano accompanist.
