Cecelia is a freelancer in the Historical Performance world, performing on a variety of Violones and Double Basses

Cecelia Bruggemeyer is a member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) and Principal Bass for the London Handel Orchestra, London Handel Players and The Mozartists. She also plays with English Baroque Soloists and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, and receives regular invitations from the Academy of Ancient Music and English Consort as Guest Principal.

Cecelia grew up in London, taking up the bass aged 11 when she started studying music at the Centre for Young Musicians. Her studies then took her to the Royal Academy of Music where she won the Eugene Cruft double bass prize, and first became interested in the world of Historical Performance through projects with Roy Goodman. This led to a year with the European Union Baroque Orchestra in 1989 which was quickly followed by professional invitations.

As well as performing, Cecelia has been teaching at Guildhall School of Music and Drama since 2008. She is also very involved in the OAE’s education work, devising projects for under 5s, leading workshops in schools, and presenting concerts on stage.

Cecelia is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, and a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy which, along with her Diploma in Executive Coaching, has led to her expanding her activities to include tutoring and mentoring Post Graduate students for PG Certificate in Performance Teaching, HEA Fellowship applications and Reflective Practice modules.
