Helen Kuby is a versatile and multi-genre French horn player

Helen’s performance career encompasses a wide genre of music including classical, pop, jazz and musical theatre. Helen’s versatility as a horn player includes engagements with Shakespeares Globe (including various ancient horns), The Kooks, Opera Holland Park, Waterperry Opera, Brighton Philharmonic, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and saxophonist Tony Kofi. As a soloist, Helen regularly performs across the UK, including Weymouth Lunchtime Concert. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music with support from the Hilda Martindale Trust, Helen received an Open Academy Fellowship and took part in the London Sinfonietta Academy.

In addition to Junior Academy, Helen is the horn teacher at North London Collegiate School and Highgate School. She regularly coaches horn players for the National Children’s Orchestra and Future Talent. Many students have received places in orchestras such as National Children’s Orchestra, in addition to music scholarships at the UK’s most competitive schools. Helen lectures in horn and performance psychology pedagogy on the LRAM teaching qualification taken by senior students at the Academy. She is a keen workshop facilitator, working with many organisations including the City of London Sinfonia, English National Opera, Wigmore Hall and the Academy itself. She also works with Academy’s widening participation department as brass, horn and musician wellbeing teacher.

Alongside her teaching of horn at Junior Academy, Helen leads all musician wellbeing education activities. This includes Healthy Young Musician group workshops, in addition to 1:1 performance coaching. Having completed a Performance Science MSc at the Royal College of Music with Distinction, Helen received the RCM Accelerate award for commitment, impact and growth of her work. This has led her to training and consulting junior conservatoires and specialised music school staff throughout the UK, in addition to Music Hubs.
