Kemal Yusuf is a British composer who has created over 150 works for various ensembles, films, dance productions, and solo performances on various instruments. He received his first major commission from the Norfolk and Norwich Festival in 2016, joining a prestigious group of composers who have received this honour.
Kemal has collaborated with numerous musicians and organisations, including the Carducci Quartet, BBC Singers, Streetwise Opera, Fidelio Trio, and the National Children's Orchestras of Great Britain, as well as teaching at the Junior Academy and co-founding the London Graduate Orchestra. He has also worked with BASCA, The Ivors, and PRSF as a consultant and is currently supported by Arts Council England. Kemal is currently working on commissions for the BBC Concert Orchestra, ABRSM, National Children's Orchestra, Britten Pears Arts, and the Ligeti Quartet.
Kemal is also a pianist and vocalist and recently was a finalist in non-classical's 2023 'Battle of the Bands'. He is continuing to develop his live act for performances including improvisation and glitch techniques.
