Luke Dunlea

Since then he has performed extensively in Britain, Ireland and Europe. Largely self-taught, Luke was educated in Ireland at a time when few if any classical guitarists were available. He went on to achieve a distinction at Grade 8, the Associate of the London College of Music 1978, and the Licentiate of Trinity College of Music 1979. Later Luke went on to receive both an intermediate and an advanced diploma from the British Kodály Academy each with distinction.

He currently teaches Kodály musicianship at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Previously he lectured on the Principles of Teaching to guitarists at Trinity College London as a result of his unique Guitar Method Jigsaw Guitar Course which combines the systematic musicianship training offered by the Kodály Method and the fundamentals of guitar technique.

He was the British representative at the European Guitar Teachers Association International Congress in Eindhoven in 1998 where he offered a paper entitled ‘The combined sequencing of musicianship and guitar pedagogy using a Kodály approach’. Luke has recorded for Radio 3, played at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and worked with the Baylis Programme of the English National Opera. He has made two recordings: Music For Two Guitars and African Sketches.
