How we determine your fee status

Home (UK) fees for degree programmes are subsidised by the UK government and are therefore lower than the standard (international) tuition fees. In determining fees classification up to the 2020/21 academic year, the Academy applies The Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 and The Student Fees (Qualifying Courses and Persons) (England) Regulations 2007. For fees classification for the 2021/22 academic year onwards, the Academy applies The Higher Education (Fee Limit Condition) (England) Regulations 2017 (as amended) (S.I. 2017 No.1189), and the Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 (as amended) (S.I. 2007 No.779).

A full explanation of these regulations is on UKCISA’s website. We recommend you consult the UKCISA website if you are uncertain about your status and for the latest information about fee eligibility.

Check if you’re eligible to pay UK fees

Following Brexit, the government confirmed that EU students beginning their course in 2020 or earlier still pay the same fees as UK students ('home fees'), for the duration of their course.

The UK Government announced that EU, other EEA and Swiss nationals will no longer be eligible for Home fee status or financial support from Student Finance England for courses starting in the academic year 2021/22 and beyond, so they will be considered as Overseas (international) students.

However, the Government has also stated that students benefitting from Citizens’ Rights under the EU Withdrawal Agreement, EEA EFTA Separation Agreement or Swiss Citizens’ Right agreements may be considered eligible for Home Fees. This includes settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, and also Ukraine Scheme visa holders.

We recommend you consult UKCISA’s website if you are uncertain about your status about fee eligibility. The Academy‘s Student Funding Manager is also happy to advise.

Most assessments are based on your situation on the ‘First day of the academic year’. This is 1 September preceding the start of your study programme. For example, the date is 1 September 2025 if you begin studying at the Academy in September 2025.

Students who have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and are joining a new course need to be ordinarily resident in the UK on 1 September before the course start date.

An explanation of ordinary residence is on UKCISA’s website.

How to pay your fees

Our Finance Department will email an invoice to the address you have given us, with details of the payment schedule. Annual tuition fees are payable in advance. There is a 10% advance deposit due in July and the remainder of the 2024/25 fee is due by 1 September 2024.

Please notify the Academy‘s Registry team if your email address changes. Receipts are only issued on request.

UK-fee students on the BMus programme with a tuition fee loan (see Loans section) from the Student Loans Company only need to provide the loan confirmation letter. If you do not use a loan to cover the fee, the full fee must be paid by 1 September.

If you need a Student Visa to commence your studies here, the amount the Academy has received for your tuition fee payment will be included in your UKVI online visa application record (the CAS statement).

Financing your studies

The Academy is committed to ensuring that the cost of tuition fees does not deter you from applying.

The Academy charges an annual tuition fee of £9,250 for BMus students from the UK and EU (2022/23 academic year). A certain amount of the income from the fee (known as Additional Fee Income) is invested into providing financial help for students from lower-income households and increased levels of outreach work. This includes the fee waivers and waiver bursaries (please see the 'fee waiver' section above).

The Academy also offers an extensive range of merit scholarships to applicants in all disciplines and programmes. These are awarded following auditions. Information on this, along with loan options for UK and international students can be found below, along with other funding sources.
