Formed at the Academy after playing together as principals in the National Youth Orchestra, Dogoda Quintet is quickly becoming one of the most exciting ensembles of its generation in the UK music scene.
They present a concert of works inspired by iconic virtuoso ensembles: the Copenhagen Wind Quintet, who prompted Carl Nielsen to compose his 1922 Wind Quintet, and Imani Winds, created and founded by Valerie Coleman — one of the most celebrated composers of today.
The repertoire showcases the range of Coleman’s writing for Imani, with the opening piece Tzigane referencing Ravel’s rhapsodic showpiece while the two concluding works – Red Clay and
Mississippi Delta – pay homage to the composer’s African-American heritage. In between, Nielsen provides a sparkling blend of personalities and contemporary and neoclassical gestures.
