Programme notes
Academy students join forces with members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and its current cohort of Foyle Future First musicians for a performance led by Edward Gardner, Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras Chair of Conducting at the Academy. The programme is inspired by memory and includes the sophisticated, transfigured Baroque dances of Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin — each movement a tribute to a friend lost in the First World War. Despite its somber inspiration, the work is remarkably lighthearted.
