Christophe Coin director/viola da gamba
Academy Baroque Soloists and musicians from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris
The exquisite and retrospective world of the viol consort seems far from the theatrical, dance-influenced violin music of the English and French courts.
However, in the first few decades of the 17th century these two sound worlds influenced each other and blended in surprising ways, as shown here inworks by Louis Couperin, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Christopher Simpson, John Jenkins and Henry Purcell.
Students from Paris join the Academy Baroque Soloists to explore the interplay of these two traditions.
