Orchestral conducting student Jess Hoskins presents Shostakovich's iconic 5th Symphony alongside a selection of contemplative contemporary works. With world premieres from Mary Offer and Luca Zucchi, and elegiac works for strings by Houtaf Khoury and Karim Al-Zand, this programme reframes the direct, compelling messaging of the symphony around the issues of our own world, 50 years on from Shostakovich's death.
